Create an Alert Banner for a Virtual Sales Assistant (VSA)

  • Updated

An alert Banner will display at the top of your Virtual Sales Assistant (VSA) on your website. A Banner is a great way to notify your website visitors of different promotions, events, or specials happening in the community. The Banner will match the color and font of your VSA

Note: Banners are only available for VSA, they are not available for Conversational Webform (CW)Banners have a 300-character max.

In this article, we'll go over how to add banners for one or more communities, as well as how to customize those banners.

Note: Banners can only be created by Corporate, Regional, and Member level users.

How to Create a Banner

To create a Banner, you will first need to locate the community(ies) you want to add it to.

Open your Further Dashboard and click Settings in the left navigation.

In the next screen, under Marketing Content, select VSA Banner.

Use the search bar in the top right to search for a single community for which you want to create the Banner.

If you would like to create a banner for multiple or all communities, click the list icon at the top of the community list. Check the desired boxes, or click the top box to select them all.

Note: If you want to create a banner for all communities and your community count exceeds 30 communities, you will need to click Select all # communities before Edit Multiple.

A window will display the number of communities chosen, click Edit Multiple

In the popup window, you can turn the banner On or Off.

When On is selected, you have the option to let the banner run endlessly or enter an end date by selecting Ends on a specific date and adding the date and time you would like for the banner to end.

Enter your banner message in the Text box. You can format the text for all VSA Banners (regular and floating) using markdown. To learn more about markdown, see the reference guide here. There is also an option to use the formatting bar above to create headings, bold and italicize text, add code, create a hyperlink, and add an image. Click Save to keep your changes.

Add a Link to the VSA Alert Banner

You can turn alert banners into clickable hyperlinks. This is helpful if you have an alert that you want to direct people to the signup page or other important URL. In the example below, the alert banner will direct prospects to a signup page for their grand opening event.

Note: Links in a VSA Banner will always be white to ensure visibility for readers.

Below, we’ll go over how to turn your Virtual Sales Assistant (VSA) alert banner into a hyperlink.

Note: To add a URL to a Virtual Sales Assistant (VSA) you must first create one. See the sections above on how to create banners.

First, you need to find the communities the banner has been applied to. See the article here for help.

In the Chat Editor page, click the Related Communities tab.

Scroll down to the Banner checkbox. Update the banner text below to make it clear that prospects can click the banner. For example, append the banner alert with Click here!

Copy this message, you will need it in the next step.

Click Save in the top right.

In the confirmation window select Save and Publish and then Confirm

Now it’s time to add the hyperlink.

Add the Hyperlink

Click the Settings tab.

Scroll down to the Custom JavaScript. Make sure the checkbox is checked

Find the last semicolon in the Javascript field. Place your cursor after it and hit Enter twice.

Paste the following content in the field:

(function () { document .querySelector("family-assets-chat") .shadowRoot.querySelector(".banner-container p").innerHTML = '<a href="http://example.com" target="_blank">Example Link</a>'; })();

Replace Example Link with the banner content you copied in the last step.

Now replace example.com with your desired URL.

Click Save in the top right.
