Create Custom Traffic Source Mapping for Analytics

  • Updated

You can run several campaigns or use several referral sources to boost traffic to your communities’ websites. Viewing and reporting on these traffic sources can quickly get out of hand, so we offer an easy way to create custom traffic sources which are then shown in Further dashboard. Using simple rules, it is very easy to set up several traffic sources under one virtual traffic source which is easy to maintain and report on.

For analytics purposes, if the URL, a URL parameter, or a referrer contains or equals certain values, you can set them to a custom traffic source. In this article, we’ll go over how.

Creating custom traffic sources can be beneficial for the following reasons:

  • Targeted Audience Reach: Custom traffic sources allow you to reach specific audiences that might be interested in your community. By targeting particular demographics, interests, or behaviors, you can attract website visitors more likely to convert into residents.
  • Higher Conversion Rates: Custom traffic sources often lead to higher conversion rates because they attract website visitors who are already interested in your community. When you target specific audiences, you're more likely to attract website visitors who are actively seeking what you provide, resulting in more meaningful interactions and conversions.
  • Control and Optimization: With custom traffic sources, you have greater control over your marketing efforts. You can experiment with different strategies, track performance metrics more accurately, and optimize your campaigns based on collected data. This level of control enables you to refine your approach and maximize the effectiveness of your marketing efforts.
  • Performance Evaluation: Reporting allows you to evaluate the performance of your custom traffic sources. By tracking metrics such as website visits, engagement, conversion rates, and revenue generated from each source, you can assess which channels are driving the most valuable traffic to your site.
  • ROI Calculation: Reporting helps you calculate the return on investment (ROI) for each custom traffic source. By comparing the cost of acquiring traffic from different channels to the revenue generated from those visitors, you can determine which sources are providing the best return on investment and allocate your marketing budget accordingly.

In this article, we'll go over how to create custom traffic source mapping for your analytics.

Note: Custom Traffic Source Mapping is only available to Corporate users.

Create Custom Traffic Source Mapping for Analytics

Click Settings in the left menu. Select Custom traffic source mapping in the Analytics submenu.

Note: If you do not see the Custom traffic source mapping option, contact your Customer Success Manager or Further Support to get access.

The Analytics Options page will open. Any existing source mappings will appear in the list below. To add a new custom traffic source mapping, click Add rule at the bottom. When you add a new rule, an asynchronous update across the historical analytics occurs.

The order rules appear in is the order in which they are applied. Use the up and down arrow in the Order column to change the rule order.

The Mapping Type column is where you label if it is a URL, a URL parameter, or referrer you are mapping.

Under Rule, you can see the conditions that will trigger the custom mapping and the results.

The Actions column has a trashcan icon you can click to delete a mapping.
